Who Can Absentee Vote in Utah?
A person may vote absentee if he or she:
1. Expects to be absent from their voting precinct (during
voting hours) on election day for any reason; or 2. Suffers from a physical condition that creates a hardship to get to their polling place, or to carry out the act of voting once they got there; or
3. Suffers from an emotional or mental impairment; or 4. Is serving as an election judge; or 5. Is detained or incarcerated in a jail or prison; or 6. Suffers a legal disability; or
7. Is prevented from voting in a particular location because of religious tenets or other strongly-held personal values; or 8. Is called for jury duty in state or federal court.
How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?
An Absent-Voter application may be obtained by calling the town clerk or city recorder or by printing or downloading the Absent-Voter Application page
(http://www.co.weber.ut.us/Clerk_Auditor/absent.htm). Voters shall file the application for an absentee ballot with the appropriate election officer no later than the Friday before election day. Persons
voting an absentee ballot at the office of the election officer shall apply for and cast their ballot no later than the day before the election (A person may apply for Permanent Absentee Voter Status by
checking the appropriate box on an Application for Absent-Voter Ballot).
How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?
Ballots must be
returned to the appropriate election officer by the close of the polls on election day.
