Who Can Absentee Vote in New Jersey?

All registered voters may opt to vote by absentee ballot.

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

Those wishing to obtain a ballot should complete an absentee ballot application. After completing the application, the voter must print and sign his/her name where indicated (failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application).

The completed and signed application should be returned to the County Clerk's office. This application must be received by the County Clerk no later than 7 days prior to the election if it is sent through the mail. Those who are unable to meet this deadline may go to the County Clerk in person (or via authorized messenger if sick or confined) up until 3:00 p.m. the day prior to the election.

Voters must apply separately for each election for which they intend to vote by an absentee ballot.

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

Ballots will be sent out as early as the 40th day prior to the election, and instructions for filling out the ballot will be included. In order to be counted, the completed absentee ballot must be received by the County Board of Elections no later than 8:00 PM (close of the polls) the day of the election.
