NEBRASKA ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Who Can Absentee Vote in Nebraska?

Any registered voter may choose to vote absentee.

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

Voters wishing to vote absentee may apply for the ballot by mail. When applying by mail, the voter must write to their local election office and include the following information:

- Voter's name and voting address
- Voter's party affiliation
- Where the voter wants the ballot sent
- Voter's signature

Election offices will begin accepting applications 120 days before an election and no later than 4:00 p.m. on the Friday before election day.

Voters may also designate an agent to pick up an absentee voting application. Anyone may act as an agent for another person with the exception of candidates or any person serving on a committee for a candidate (these individuals may only pick up a ballot for a member of their family). The application must be signed either by the voter or by the agent before it is submitted to the election office. Agents may only obtain two applications. The deadline for an agent to pick up an absentee ballot is 7:00 p.m. election day.

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

Voters can vote absentee in person 35 days before statewide elections and 15 days before city elections. The deadline to vote absentee in person is 5:30 p.m. the day before the election (Monday).

Ballots returned in person, whether by the voter or by an agent must be returned by 8:00 p.m. election night.

All ballots returned by mail must be received by 10:00 a.m. on the second day following the election (Thursday).
