Who Can Absentee Vote in Kentucky?

If a registered voter meets any of the following criteria, he/she may submit a request to receive an absentee ballot by mail:

- Advanced age, disability, illness or medical emergency
- Voter is a member of the Armed Forces, the dependent of a member of the Armed forces or a citizen residing overseas

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

Those wishing to vote absentee should apply for an absentee ballot at the County Clerk's office. The deadline for applying for a paper absentee ballot is 7 days before an election. However, voters may apply for a paper absentee ballot due to a medical emergency up to the day of the election. Applications may be requested in person, by mail, by phone, or by fax.

One may also vote on a voting machine in the County Clerk's office 12 or more days before the election, if he/she is going to be out of the county on election day and does not qualify for a paper absentee ballot.

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

The completed ballot must be mailed to the County Clerk's office. In order to be counted, the ballot must be received by the clerk no later than the close of polls on Election Day.
