HAWAII ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Who Can Absentee Vote in Hawaii?

Any person registered to vote in the State of Hawaii may vote by absentee ballot.

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

Voters can vote absentee in person or by mail. The provisions for doing so are as follows:

In Person:
Voters may apply for and vote an absentee ballot in person at an Absentee Polling Place established by the local Office of the City/County Clerk. The absentee polling places will be open no later than ten working days before election day, and all Saturdays falling within that time period.

By Mail:
To vote an absentee ballot by mail, a voter must submit an "Application for Absentee Ballot" to the local City or County Clerk. Applications are available at Hawaii Public Libraries, U. S. Post Offices, Satellite City Halls, City or County Clerks offices and State Agencies. Voters may also download an "Application for Absentee Ballot" from the Hawaii Office of Elections' Homepage (on the Internet at: http://www.hawaii.gov/elections).

Any mailed requests for an absentee ballot must be sent directly from the voter requesting the ballot to his/her county clerk.

A completed application for an absentee ballot must be submitted directly to the city election office or county clerk no earlier than 60 days and no later than 7 days before the election. The application form will require the following information of each applicant:

- Name under which the voter is registered
- Residence address under which voter is registered
- Birth date
- Social Security Number
- Home and/or business telephone number
- Election(s) in which voter intends to vote absentee
- Voter's signature
- Address to which ballot should be mailed

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

Absentee ballots may be mailed or hand-delivered to the clerk, but must be received by the close of polls on election day.
