How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

Voters may request an absentee ballot as early as 180 days before an election. No absentee ballots are issued on election day.

Applications for absentee ballots may be made in person at the registrar's office, by mail, or if available, by fax to the registrar's office. The application must be in writing and must contain the following information:

- Reason for request.
- Applicant's party affiliation (if the request is for a primary ballot).
- Elections for which the ballot is required.
- Applicant's name and address as registered.
- Sufficient information for identification of the voter.
- Address for delivery of the ballot if applied for and to be delivered by mail.
- Applicant's signature.

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

Absentee ballots must be signed and received by the county board of registrars' office on or before election day.

Other Information on Absentee Voting in Georgia

No absentee ballot shall be mailed to an address other than the permanent in-county or temporary out-of-county address. A close relation may request an absentee ballot for a physically disabled elector residing within the county or a voter residing temporarily out of county. Relative's name, relationship and oath are required.

Voters out of the county on military or merchant marine assignments and their dependents residing with them need apply only once and will receive any subsequent ballots ensuing from that election (The presidential primary and special primaries and elections do not fall within this provision).

Absentee ballots may be delivered to a voter who is a patient in a hospital, even on election day.
