District Of Columbia Voter Registration Information
Must register to vote 30 days before the election. Can select or change party affiliation 30 days before the election.
Can register to vote in person or obtain a mail-in application from:
Division of motor vehicles Aid to families with dependent children (AFDC) offices Medicaid offices Food Stamps offices Women, infants and children (WIC) benefits offices
Agencies that provide services to people with disabilities

Who Can Absentee Vote in Washington, D.C.?
A
registered voter may opt to vote absentee if he/she is unable to go to the polls for one of the following two reasons:
1. Because of age or disability
2. Voter will be out of town on election day.
How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?
There are two types of absentee voting: IN PERSON and BY MAIL.
Those interested in absentee voting BY MAIL must send a written request to the Board of Elections and Ethics (address given below). Absentee ballot request forms are available at the office, or a
short note including the following information may be sent to the Board:
- Applicant's name - Applicant's address - Applicant's mailing address (if different)
- Reason for voting absentee - Applicant's signature

Requests for a
mail-in absentee ballot must reach the office no later than one week before the election.
Those wishing to vote absentee IN PERSON may apply and cast their ballot in the Board of Elections and
Ethics office beginning 14 days before the election. During this period, the office is open Monday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The deadline for in person absentee voting is 4:45 p.m.
the day before election day.
How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?
If a voter chooses to mail in
the completed ballot, it must be postmarked no later than election day and must be received by the Board no later than ten days after the election. If a voter chooses to hand-deliver the ballot to
his/her polling place, it must be delivered no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
