Did you know that if you give your car keys to someone for any reason and that person decides to steal your vehicle, all you can charge them with in North Carolina is "Unauthorized Use Of Conveyance," which is but a slap on the wrist compared to what has actually happened? Well, believe me because I haven't seen my car for four years. Even to this day, the police refuse to list my car on the crime network as stolen. As for insurance companies, you can forget about compensation as long as your car is not listed as being stolen. I propose a change in the North Carolina General Statue 14-72.2 from Unauthorized Use of Conveyance to Motor Vehicle Theft to more clearly establish what has actually happened. This way it will be more clearly written and everything that you have to handle can be cleared up in a more timely fashion.
