"Soccer Mom" Picks Lieberman for VP
Californian Predicted Gore’s VP Pick; Wins $5,000 from SpeakOut.com

WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 8, 2000 - Actually, Lisa Edwards of Richmond, California is a baseball coach. The concerned voter and mother of two has emerged as a $5,000 winner today in the second phase of SpeakOut.com's Veepstakes Sweepstakes, a three-month long national guessing game that gave armchair pundits a chance to win big bucks in a test of their political acumen.

"I'm not big into politics but the issues being debated in this election are extremely important to me and my children," said Edwards. "I would have liked to see a woman Vice President, but the country isn't ready for that and Joe Lieberman is the next best choice. He instills confidence in the ticket and allows Gore to separate himself from Clinton's personal failures."

A long time democrat, Edwards chose not to vote in the last two Presidential elections rather than vote for Clinton. She now plans to give Gore a chance and Lieberman has reinforced that decision.

Thousands of online participants took part in the contest, which officially closed on July 4 – before the Presidential candidates narrowed down their choices to the "short list." Contestants had three chances to win $5,000. While a winner has yet to be selected among the correct predictors of the Reform Party Veepstakes, another Californian, Phil Collins of Oceanside, was announced as the winner of the GOP Veepstakes last week.

Although participants were allowed to change their vote until the July 4th closing date, Edwards made her pick early, citing her candidate research on the Internet as her main reason for picking Joe Lieberman.

To find out who wins the remaining $5,000 prize, participants are encouraged to visit http://www.veepstakes.com once the Reform Party nominee make his selection known.

In the final SpeakOut.com Veepstakes standings, most Americans predicted Tom Ridge, Diane Feinstein and Pat Choate would be the most likely vice presidential picks for the 2000 elections. Following are the final candidate standings according to SpeakOut.com Veepstakes participants:
