Press Releases | In the News | Media Contact Info Press Release SpeakOut.com Speaks to America Through Talk Radio WASHINGTON, D.C. February 14, 2000 SpeakOut.com, the non-partisan Internet activism portal, and Talk America, a 24-hour nationwide talk radio network, have reached an agreement to broadcast 'The SpeakOut Minute' 24 times per day over Talk America's affiliate radio network of nearly 500 stations beginning in March, 2000. The SpeakOut Minute will chronicle the American opinion on top issues-of-the-day, a favorite topic of talk radio. Underlying every SpeakOut broadcast will be encouragement of active participation in the democratic process, government and citizenship. It is a message ideally suited to talk radio listeners, who have traditionally been among the most active participants in public discourse. The deal marks the first time that an Internet portal has committed to creating original content for a nationwide radio network. In the process, it creates a powerful bridge between the established medium of radio and the new medium of the Internet. SpeakOut will also make available advanced activism and survey technologies to the affiliates of Talk America, uniquely expanding the input and impact audiences can have on talk radio programs. On the web, SpeakOut.com enables citizens to learn about and speak out on issues that affect their lives, with messages delivered clearly and effectively to the right officeholders, candidates, business leaders and media executives. SpeakOut's radio presence will be an extension of that mission. "The new 'SpeakOut Minute' on Talk America will remind every citizen that they have a powerful voice and are not alone in the political process," said Ron Howard, chairman and CEO of SpeakOut.com. “We look forward to working with Talk America to ensure that the American people are heard louder, stronger and clearer across the land." This cutting-edge partnership will offer unique content for Talk America listeners and an on-air, on-line non-partisan activism message," said Tom Star, president of Talk America. "The impact of the SpeakOut Minute will be strong, because Talk America is the only national radio network delivering talk programming 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on 2 networks." 'The SpeakOut Minute' will be broadcast nation-wide on Talk America's nearly 500 stations, 120 times per week in the U.S. and Canada, including stations in Washington DC, LA, New York, Chicago and Boston. Talk America quotes a weekly cume audience (total number of persons who tune to a radio station during the course of a day for at least five minutes) of 4.5 million listeners.
