December 8, 1999 SpeakOut.com today announced that Kerry Kennedy Cuomo and Susan Eisenhower will serve as Co-Chairs of the company's Board of Governors. The Board of Governors, which Kennedy Cuomo and Eisenhower will jointly establish, will be a panel of distinguished Americans whose diverse voices will help steer the course of the new Web site and spread the message of SpeakOut.com around the nation. "The Board of Governors will be composed of individuals representing different voices, but who speak in unison of the need to bring Americans of all backgrounds back into political action and involvement," stated Ron Howard, Chairman and CEO. "We are delighted and honored to have two such accomplished and thoughtful Americans add to SpeakOut.com's vision and voice." In addition, the pair will serve as strategic advisors to the company, offering leadership, guidance and advice to its senior management. Earlier this month, SpeakOut.com launched The Election of Ideas, a non-partisan, interactive Internet survey, written by Mark Penn and Tony Fabrizio, rival pollsters from the 1996 presidential campaign. The online survey empowers Americans to choose the issues most important to them in the 2000 Election, and SpeakOut.com will report the results on January 20, 2000 exactly one year before the inauguration of the next president. Ms. Kennedy Cuomo and Ms. Eisenhower will be working closely with SpeakOut.com's Board of Advisors including former New York representatives Tom Downey and Susan Molinari; Michael K. Deaver, former deputy chief of staff to Ronald Reagan; Jack Quinn, former White House counsel to President Clinton; Carter Eskew, a current advisor to Vice President Gore (currently on leave); Bill Diefenderfer, and Rich Bond, former chairman of the Republican National Committee. Kerry Kennedy Cuomo has worked as a human rights activist since 1981 and has led over that time nearly three-dozen human rights delegations to more than 20 countries around the world. In 1988, she established the RFK Center for Human Rights to ensure protection of rights codified under the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights, an organization that provides a base of support to human rights defenders. She is also the chair of the Amnesty International Leadership council, and is currently working on a book of profiles of 50 human rights defenders around the world to be published in 2000. Susan Eisenhower is the President of the Eisenhower Group, Inc., a Washington-based consulting firm that provides political, economic, trade, marketing and investment analysis to Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and entrepreneurs. She is the founder and chairman of the Center for Political and Strategic Studies, formerly the Center for Post-Soviet Studies. At the center, Ms. Eisenhower has spent years focusing on U.S.-Soviet/Russian relations, placing a special emphasis on the changing political, economic and social developments in the former Soviet Union.
