WASHINGTON, D.C. - September 29, 2000 - Fox News Channel and SpeakOut.com announced today that their co-sponsored "Rate the Debate" program, a forum driven by viewer participation via the Internet, will premier during the first Presidential Debate on Tuesday, October 3, 2000. In conjunction with Fox News Channel's You Decide 2000 coverage, "Rate the Debate" will be featured during the upcoming presidential and vice-presidential debates. "Rate the Debate" is an interactive web initiative that will record television viewers' responses to the candidates' performances during the debates. Internet users can connect to FOXNEWS.com and post instantaneous reactions to the candidates' answers. The opinions of the online participants will be compiled and analyzed, providing immediate feedback of the candidates' responses and performance. Speakout.com and Fox News Channel will then report America's responses live on the Internet at FOXNEWS.com -- showing how Democrats, Republicans and Independents react to the candidates. In addition, Fox News Channel will broadcast the results of the "Rate the Debate" online focus group following the debate. "Pundits and politicians often dominate the analysis of presidential debates," said Marty Ryan, executive producer of political programming at Fox News Channel. "Our partnership with SpeakOut.com gives the audience the opportunity to instantly rate the candidates and be active participants in Fox News Channel's debate coverage." SpeakOut's new Ntercept™ technology uses the Internet to allow thousands of users to simultaneously react to televised images. The resulting data stream will show cumulative levels of approval or disapproval for each speaker, with data that tracks to individual phrases. "Our Ntercept™ technology enables the opinions of thousands to be known and understood in seconds, rather than hours," said Ron Howard, Chairman and CEO of SpeakOut.com. "Never before have the moment-by-moment feelings of so many people been measured so quickly. We are excited to add Internet-based research to the richness of reporting by Fox News Channel." Participants should pre-register for the Fox News/SpeakOut "Rate the Debate" Program through the Fox News Web site or at www.speakout.com/debates/foxnews.
